Is your local council a con artist?

South Gloucestershire Council got a grant and funding from central goverment for a planned MetroBus route which included the route from the City boundary at Stoke Park to Cribbs Causeway via the new Stoke Gifford By-Pass (relief road).

However after receiving funding, the council now wants the MetroBus to go via Hatchet Road. This was not agreed, and was not what the government gave funding for.

The council istrying to get around this con by calling the route an 'extension'. But how can it be an extension, if the original route is to be curtailed. It's a diversion, or new route, It needs a re-application for more money!

So should the council inform the Secretary of State for Transport, as is their duty about the change, and refund the governemnt, then re-apply for the new route?
